NDMP Verification TPAutoconf - Node-Scope

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I am trying to setup NetBackup 7.7 (trial) and connecting to Netapp 8.2.2 cDOT mode. I believe I have everything setup but I am only able to see one node in the NetApp cluster. When I have node-scode-mode on I can see "the" node and all of its volumes. but when I turn it off I can't see anything. I believe I am using the right LIF IP, I have tried it several different ways.

When I have node-scope-mode off I get

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpautoconf -verify 10.5.10.107
Connecting to host "10.5.10.107" as user "admin"...
Waiting for connect notification message...
Opening session--attempting with NDMP protocol version 4...
Opening session--successful with NDMP protocol version 4
  host supports MD5 authentication
Getting MD5 challenge from host...
Logging in using MD5 method...
ndmp_connect_client_auth failed
: host "10.5.10.107" failed
NDMP failed to verify host

But when I turn it on I get

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpautoconf -verify 10.5.10.107
Connecting to host "10.5.10.107" as user "admin"...
Waiting for connect notification message...
Opening session--attempting with NDMP protocol version 4...
Opening session--successful with NDMP protocol version 4
  host supports MD5 authentication
Getting MD5 challenge from host...
Logging in using MD5 method...
Host info is:
  host name "jacksondr-03"
  os type "NetApp"
os version "NetApp Release 8.2.2 Cluster-Mode"
  host id "2014569956"
Login was successful
Host supports LOCAL backup/restore
Host supports 3-way backup/restore

What am I missing? I have read the documentation and it all seems setup correctly. I am currently backing it up using Backup Exec but I want to be able to use the clustering capabilities on the NetApp side.

Backup Exec 2014 Small Business Edition w/support moving to 2015

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

If an existing customer with Backup Exec 2014 Small Business Edition has active support\maintenance for two more year can they upgrade to Backup Exec 2015 using File Connect.  If so I assume they will have access to licensing for Backup Exec Server plus agents for Exchange, AD, SQL, SP and Hyper-V.  The licensing guide seems to state this from my read of it   I ask because the migration path is to Bacukup Exec Capacity Edition Lite 1TB and that is what will show on an IBR, but if the customer had greater than 1TB front end they have to purchase additional capacity licensing if they move to that licensing model before thier support expires in two years.

2.6.1.2 Appliance VMware snapshot issue - creates but unable to delete snapshots

Recently upgraded entire environment to 7.6.1.2/2.6.1.2 from 7.6.1/2.6.1

Environment briefly:

Master: Solaris 10, NetBackup 7.6.1.2
Media: 4 x 5220 Appliances, NetBackup 7.6.1.2
VMware: vCenter 4.1

So was not having issues with the vCenter 4.1 environment prior to the ugprade.  But post upgrade I started getting Status 156s *after* a night of successful backups.  What I have narrowed it down to is that the appliance is able to request and get a snapshot done, but when it comes time to clean up the snapshot, it fails.  Strange thing is that this job completes with a Status 0 - but with the following errors:

Subsequent backups fail due to the old snapshot being orphaned.  I have to manually go in and delete the orphaned snapshots, then I can get another good backup... which promptly leaves another orphaned snapshot.

Support has been somewhat helpful, but at this point they are saying things point to VMware... and I don't really know where to start looking.  I'm somewhat hopeful since it is easily reproducable, but since the "official" word is that 4.1 is not supported in conjuction with 7.6.1 I'm not overly confident.

Anyone run into anything similar?

Backup Exec 2010 Remote Agent crashing Domain Controller

$

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Specifics:

  • Backup Server:  Symantec Backup Exec R3 SP4 on Windows 2003 SP2
    • Dell PowerEdge 1850 (yes, it's that old)
  • Backup Target:  Windows 2008 R2
    • Domain Controller
    • GC, Infrastructure Master, Domain Naming Master, Bridgehead
    • Virtualized on VMWare 6
  • Running on closed-network

Noticed that every time we logged into this server, there was an unexpected shutdown notification prompt (daily).  Searched through the logs and found that these, "Windows-has-started-after-an-unexpected-shutdown" event do actually occur once daily around 1700-ish (+/- 30-90 mins).  Asked one of the techs if that meant anything to them and they said there was a Symantec job that runs around that time.  So we checked on the server and noticed that the Domain Controller job was failing (daily) also.  But, just to verify, we initiated a backup at 0900 the following morning and 20-ish minutes later (still during the backup job), the DC BSOD'd again.

It is worth noting that it completely finishes on one of the other DCs before failing on the one in question.  I'm currently trying to download and bring over the 2K8 R2 symbols to debug the dump to see if I can identify the faulting module/function but if it's a Symantec DLL and not a MS DLL, I won't have that available.

It is worth noting that in trying to troubleshoot any associated information, the System and Application logs show nothing of note.  System shows normal DC-operations, then a 15-ish minute break in events, and then a system startup event.  There is nothing of note in the Application log.

In hunting for Symantec logs, I'm not sure if it's relevant or not but I found a log named (PDVFS)[Datetime].LOG under C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS\logs\PDVFS.  There are daily logs around the same 1700ish timeframe with 2 entries (which are always the same):

[Datetime] (2852:2856) PDVFS - CPersistentConnection::RemoveConnection:  RegDeleteKey failed with error:  2250
[Datetime] (2852:2856) PDVFS - CDiskManager::UnmapDrive:  caught exception; error:  -536870909

Is anyone aware of anything similar to this that we might need a hotfix/patch for?

Error while saving the snapshot

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi

Have a VM which is failing with snapshot.

Master Server running on RHEL6 with NBU version 7.6.1.2

Backup Host (Media Server) running on RHEL6 with NBU version  7.6.0.4

Client is a Windows 2012 server

Vsphere is 5.5

Here is a list of things i have tried:

  • Backup job itself does multilple attempts, and it does complete the snapshot as seen in Vcenter, but fails to save it.
  • Tried a manual snapshot (without virtual machine memory and Quiesce gues file enabled) and it did complete without any problems.
  • Logs:
    • Message in Vcenter says as follows:
An error occured while saving the snapshot: msg.snapshot.error-QUIESCINGERROR.
    • BPFIS was created on the backup hos and attached is the result.
    • Event viewer is showing multiple errors:
      [ warning] [vmvss:vmvss] CVmSnapshotRequestor::CheckWriterStatus():1536: writer SqlServerWriterr in failed state: res = 0x800423f0, err = 0x1, error =
  • From the event viewer log above, i have figured that Netbackup is unable to backup independent disk. This VM does have independent disks, but the OS disk is not an independent disk. Anyhow my understanding is that backup should not fail due to independent disk, even though it is unable to back them, it simply just dont show any thing on disks that are independent.

Master / Media Serer on virtual machine

hi Team,

Can you please help to provide the recommendations/best practise of using virtual machines as master and media server

- How many cores and RAM required on Master server

- How many cores and RAM required on Media server

We would assign space from storage on media server and use it as MSDP for backup. The data load would be 30TB around.

is there any limitation of assiging the space on virtual machine ? or any other recommendation i missed ?

there would not be any tape drive. NBU version - 7.6.1.1

Migrating from 32 to 64 bits - Need help to migrate opscenter.

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi guys.

I am currently running Opscenter 7.5.0.6 under windows 2003 sp2 standard edition, wich if course it´s 32 bits, and now facing the migration to 7.6, I am rebuilding some servers, and this one is among them.

As far as I understand, the correct migration sequence would be to upgrade first opscenter, them master, and then media.

I am building a 2012 windows server, but would like to keep all the data and queries I have in my old server.

Do I need to do a backup and then restore some folders, just copy paste, or am I doomed and have to recreate averything manually?

Thanks in advance.

SSR 2013 R2 backups successful but data outdated and status unavailable.

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Our platform: Windows Server 2012 R2
Our setup. Physical Hyper1 (Symantec hosted on) & Virtual DC Server, which is our domain controller and stores our shared drives
Package: Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2: V 11.1.2.54477

We are having a very strange problem, which has only been noticed recently.

Each night we have a scheduled backup that backups all our data to a NASDrive in another building. I get email notifications everyday that tells me the backup has been succesful. Recently one of our staff had deleted a file by accident and we needed to retrieve it. When I mounted the drive I noticed all the data was from 3months ago. All our recent folders and files weren't in there. I dismounted it and checked all the other recovery points for the last 2 weeks and every single one was indentical showing the exact same outdated files/folders. I have also noticed that instead of a green tick beside the recovery points it's a blue question mark and the status is set to 'unavailable'. I've tried updating SSR and have restarted the server to see if that may resolve the problem. I have looked extensivley online and on the forums here, but no one seems to have had a similar problem so not sure where to start.

(On a side note, which could may have been the cause in the first place or just a coincdence. 3 months ago when we were doing a restart of the server it froze and was not responsive, which meant we had to forcefully shut it down. When I looked the otherday at our servers runtime, it was 84days. When I counted the days back to when the server would have been restarted. The file within the recovery point seemed to be the day before the restart)

(I've attached some screenshots. You can see the date modified on the Virtual Hard Disk is 12/08/2015, however the vhdx file within is showing 18/05/2015)

First time worries with Hyper-V backup

I am new to Hyper-V.  I installed a Windows 2012R2 Hyper V Host and have one Windows 2012R2 Hyper V guest server running.

My goal is wanting to daily full backups of our Hyper V guest server (no GRT needed).

Should I just install a normal backupexec agent on the Hyper V guest and do backups as I have been with my physical servers?Or is it better to back up using the Hyper V agent provided by BackupExec?  Cost is not a concern...but I worry about complexity of these backups.

Can someone tell me the pro/cons of doing a traditional agent backup vs Hyper V host backup?

The backup server is Windows 2008R2 and running BackupExec 15 with all the latest service packs.

Non, je n'ai pas besoin d'une solution (je partage des informations seulement)

Before selling VERITAS ; Symantec was the only company that provided complete security solution in the world with vast portfolio of products in CIAM (Confidentiality - Integrity - Avalability - Management) and we all know security is CIAM and without any of these four there is no security ,now symantec is just like any other security company , its like sophos or mcafee even these companies are trying to enter in Availability and management section of Security.

i think symantec forgot  that what is  security, dear symantec if you want to focus on security you must have Availability and management solution.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_security#Key_concepts

it's so bad for partners & customers and in long run its bad for symantec.

whos gonna run VERITAS ,Carlyle Group? who are they? they work in energy filed?

NetBackup Licensing with Oracle VM Linux/Windows VMs?

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Greetings,

Could you please help us understand how NetBackup is licensed on Linux and Windows virtual machines hosted on Oracle VM? Oracle VM is Oracle's x86 server virtualization hypervisor, like ESX, Hyper-V, or XenServer.

We do not intent to run NetBackup on the ORacle Vm servers, i.e. the hypervisors, we do intenet to run NetBackup in the Linux and Windows VMs? the Linus and Windows VMs are running Oracle DBs, App servers / WebLogic, and Oracle EBS, and Exchange, and SQL Server.

Is NetBackup is licensed per hosts, i.e. per hypervisor?

Is NetBackup is licensed per virtual machine?

Thank you,

Roddy
